The Outer East Football Netball League can be traced back to 1891, when teams would play Trophy Competitions.

2024

Yea returns to the competition, whilst Broadford is in recess.
The competition reverts back to a two division competition.

2021

Beaconsfield leave the competition & join The Eastern Football Netball League (Division 1) for the 2022 season.
Doveton Doves leave the competition & join the Southern Foootball Netball League (Division 2).

2020

In Season 2020 promotion and relegation will occur between Premier and Division 1, with one side being relegated and promoted. The bottom side in Division 1 will not be relegated in 2020, unless specifically requesting it. Division 2 will become a stand-alone division, with promotion into and out of this division by application only.

2019

In August of 2018 the AFL Yarra Ranges commission rubber-stamped the move of the six SEFNL clubs (Narre Warren, Berwick, Beaconsfield, Officer, Pakenham and Doveton) to join the new league, which will be known as AFL Outer East Football NetballLeague. The 26-club competition will be a three-tiered league, with eight sides to compete in Premier, nine in Division 1 and eight in Division 2 across a 16-round season. The top three clubs from SEFNL and the top five teams from AFL Yarra Ranges, based on ladder positions at the end of the home-and-away season, will make up the top flight. Division 1 will consist of the botton 3 SEFNL clubs and bottom 5 Yarra Ranges clubs, as well as 1 Division 2 club by application. Division 2 will be made up of the existing Yarra Ranges Division 2 clubs.

2018

In March of 2018 the South East and Yarra Ranges football and netball competitions begin talks of a possible merge in 2019, paving the way for the SEFNL to compete in a multiple division league.
Healesville play their 1000th game in the YVMDFL/YRFL against Wandin (Round 13).

1966

Mountain District Football Association and the Yarra Valley Football League merge to become the Mountain District Yarra Valley Football League. Participating clubs at this time included Belgrave, Emerald, Gembrook, Monbulk, South Belgrave & Upwey-Tecoma (from the MDFA). Healesville, Marysville, Millgrove, Warburton, Woori Yallock, Yarra Junction (from YVFL).
Warburton & Millgrove merge to form Warburton-Millgrove.
From 1966-1971, the reserve grade competition was known as 'B grade', and some senior teams competed (e.g. Powelltown, Silvan, South Belgrave).
